Thanks to their very loud and distinctive call, I often hear the Eurasian Green Woodpecker (Picus viridis) before I see it. On the contrary of the Great Spotted Woodpecker which I rarely see doing it, the Eurasian Green Woodpecker often feeds on the ground.

You can distinguish males and females first looking at their moustache. The female one is all black, where the male is red with a black border.
