European Bee-eaters (Merops apiaster) are clearly one of the most colorful birds you can see in Switzerland. In Geneva canton, there are not more than 3 spots where you can spot them. The breeding season is between May and August. As any Bee-eater, they dig holes in the ground to nest and feed on insects.

This is the only species of its family you can see in Europe, which is why it is named European Bee-eater. Their plumage is unmistakable, as well as their call.
