Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) near Kumarakom, Kerala, India. February 2015. Not baited. Not called in.

During a morning birding boat trip on Kerala's enchanting backwaters, our guide spotted this Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) standing on a mat of water-lillies and looking for food. The irrisdescence of this bird's plumage is striking!
